My man slept with my mum!

My fella chose a funny way of comforting my Mum

You know things are serious with a guy when you take him to meet your parents. After all, what bloke would face a grilling from them if he didn’t really like you?
So when my boyfriend Gary insisted on meeting my parents seven months after we started dating, I realised how much we’d fallen for each other.
And to top it off, Mum and Dad adored him.
‘Another Chelsea fan!’ Dad had beamed when Gary told him which footie team he supported.
Mum was thrilled as well when he offered to help wash up after we’d had dinner.
‘He’s lovely,’ she’d whispered later. ‘Hang on to him.’
And, for two years, that’s what I’d done. Despite having nothing in common, me and Gary were made for each other.
Rather than argue over whether to watch an action movie or a romantic comedy, we’d see both. While I showed him the fun of hitting a nightclub, he taught me the offside rule in football.
We were total opposites, but we were happy together.
When Gary met me after work one day, though, he wasn’t his usual cheerful self.
‘I’m being made redundant,’ he sighed. ‘I can’t afford the rent at my flat and I can’t go back to my dad’s, his girlfriend annoys me…’
Working as a hairdresser, I didn’t earn enough to support us.
Back home, I told Mum and Dad about the bad news.
‘I wish I could help him,’ I moaned.
‘Why doesn’t he move in here?’ Mum offered. ‘We’ve got space.’
True, my older brother David had moved out, his old room was spare.
Gary was over the moon when I told him.
‘I promise I won’t be under your feet for long,’ he told Mum and Dad, unpacking his stuff.
‘Don’t be daft,’ Dad smiled. ‘It’ll be nice having another bloke here.’
I knew he meant it. Truth was, Mum and Dad hadn’t been getting along great lately. After 20 years of marriage, they were arguing with each other constantly.
When Gary moved in, things started to change. Their bickering was put on hold.
I realised they didn’t want him to see them arguing.
‘I think you’re a good influence on those two,’ I smiled to Gary as we snuggled on the sofa one night. ‘I hate hearing them row.’
‘Things will get better,’ he promised. ‘And soon as I’ve got a new job, maybe we can get our own place?’
‘That’d be nice,’ I sighed happily.
With Gary around to keep Dad company, me and Mum spent more time together too.
We’d always been close, cuddling under a duvet on the sofa and chatting together over a tub of ice-cream.
The four of us were a happy little family – most of the time…
Getting a call at work one morning from Mum, I could barely make out what she was saying.
‘Dad…called me…big fight…’ she choked through sobs. ‘I’m going home early from work.’
‘Okay,’ I replied. ‘I’d come too, but I’ve got clients all afternoon…’
‘It’s okay,’ she said. ‘I’ll be fine.’
Hanging up, I felt awful as I dialled Gary’s number. I knew that he’d be at home then searching for jobs online.
‘Mum’s on her way home now,’ I told him. ‘She and Dad have had another fight.’
‘Doesn’t sound good,’ he sighed. ‘I’ll look after her, don’t worry.’
‘Thanks,’ I replied.
Putting the phone down, though, I bit my lip. Mum was always there for me when I needed her.
‘Everything okay?’ my workmate Emma asked.
‘Not really,’ I shrugged. ‘Mum’s really upset.’
‘I can cover your appointments if you want to see her,’ she offered.
‘That’d be great!’ I gushed, grabbing my coat before she could change her mind.
Pulling up outside the house, I hurried in.
Poor Mum, at least now I could make her a welcome cuppa, give her a cuddle…
But when I checked in all the rooms downstairs, she was nowhere to be seen.
Running upstairs, I slowed down as I heard Mum’s low moans coming from the spare room.
Oh no, she was still crying. Gary must be looking after her.
Quietly, pushing open the bedroom door, I got ready to give her a big hug. Then I froze.
My heart stopped as I took in the scene in front of me – Gary’s clothes scattered around the floor as usual, the single bed pushed against the wall facing me as usual…
But there, on the bed was a sight I’d never seen before – Mum naked, straddling my boyfriend!
I stared in horror as she moaned again. Only now I realised she wasn’t crying over Dad, she was moaning with pleasure as she had sex with my Gary!
I couldn’t move.
Blinking, I prayed it was a horrible nightmare…it wasn’t.
You might think I’d have seen red right then, but something else was racing through my mind. I’d never known Mum had her nipple pierced!
Then, suddenly, Mum turned towards me.
Her brown eyes full of shock…guilt…remorse perhaps?
No. She didn’t even try covering herself up!
I snapped.
Without a word, I lunged at her, pulling her off the bed and on to the floor.
‘Stop!’ Gary cried, leaping off the bed with his pants around his ankles.
I lashed out, fury burning inside me as I punched Mum right in the face.
I barely noticed when the front door clicked shut downstairs. Dad had come home.
Suddenly, Gary was running out of the door, passing him on the stairs faster than lightning.
Seeing Dad walk into the room, his eyes wide with shock as he saw me pummelling Mum, I finally backed off. Blood gushed from her nose as she scrabbled around for clothes and tugged on the first thing she found – one of Gary’s shirts.
Gasping for breath, I rushed past Dad and out of the house.
Climbing into my car, tears fell thick and fast as everything caught up with me.
My mum and my boyfriend… how could they?
I’d only come home to make sure Mum was okay. Turned out my boyfriend had well and truly cheered her up.
I felt sick trying to shake off the image of them together.
An hour later, I saw Mum leave in a taxi.
Back inside, I found Dad sitting in the kitchen.
‘Is she coming back?’ I asked.
He shook his head.
‘She swears he made the first move,’ he told me quietly. ‘That he took advantage…’
He trailed off, but I knew what he was thinking. How could we forgive either of them?
Gary called constantly, but I ignored him, burning his clothes and selling his furniture on eBay.
I never heard from Mum, though. She and Dad got divorced soon after.
It’s been six months since it happened and I’m still torn. Mum used to be the person I turned to when I had a hard day or got my heart broken.
I miss her so much, but I could never trust her again.
Now, me and Dad are trying to move on.

• Gary Edmonds, 28, says: ‘I regret what happened, but I did what any decent bloke would do...Edith was crying, I comforted her! I had no sexual intentions, but Chloe’s mum practically jumped me.’

• Edith, 46, says: ‘Of course I regret sleeping with Gary. I know it makes no difference, but I didn’t make a move on him, it was the other way round. I’m sorry and want my daughter back, but that’s not going to happen. Chloe won’t forgive me.’
